There had been a request to post the check system that I use. This is one I received from a fifth grade teacher at our school that has been working well. I'll try and convert to a pdf so I can post for download.

This looks great, thanks for sharing! I usually used +, v, or -, but I like the 5 levels better and the grade equiv. posted next to it.
I used a system similiar to this for the pass 3-4 years and it really worked for.

Eve, do you have any criteria for the checks, or is it just teacher judgement?
Mendy - Most of the time it falls under teacher judgement. I used it to grade handwriting and spelling homework the other day. All parents got a copy of the check system. Eve
